Betty Molyneux

Artist

I am an artist and nurse working with a mix of mediums from drawing to painting. After completing a degree in Fine Art and Health in 2003, I worked at the 50th Venice Bienniale. Art became my own therapy when I answered the calling to be a nurse. I like to say that painted my way through the pandemic, taking particular comfort in depicting the familiar landscapes from my journeys home after long tough night shifts. I was proud to exhibit these paintings as part of Covert Art’s debut exhibition last year. I was also incredibly privileged to display two paintings in the windows of the Xcel Centre for Artspace’s Artist on Your Street programme in 2021.

My work is best described as elemental, ethereal, everyday art. It has also been described as romantic, domestic and like a nostalgia for a lost past. I wish for my art to promote reminiscence and conversation and to tell a story and perhaps encourage those who may not usually go to a gallery to visit one.
